The Symphonic Winds is Abbotsleigh’s top concert band and is conducted by Mr Mark Barnsley. The band is an auditioned ensemble and comprises students from Years 7 – 1 . Called upon to perform for a variety of events, the Symphonic Winds recently performed in the “Tapestry of Sound” concert at the Opera House to mark Abbotsleigh’s 130th birthday.
Turramurra High School has an impressive band program comprising 2 concert bands and 3 stage bands. The bands are successful in major competitions throughout the year and tour regionally annually and internationally every 3 years. This year the Tour Band travelled to Adelaide while in 2013 the Regional Tour Band travelled to Tasmania and the International Tour Band travelled to Europe, performing in Berlin, Prague, Budapest and Vienna.
The St Ives Public School Band Program comprises over 80 students across 4 bands – Training, Intermediate, Senior and Stage Band. Stage Band is an extension band program for students who have been playing for a couple of years, and has more of a jazz focus in the choice of music. They rehearse once a week under the baton of conductor Mr Gerald Steinmann, and perform regularly at school and external events. The Stage Band’s recent achievements include a Gold award in the NSW School Band Festival in August.
They will be performing some of their favourite pieces for the festival, like Sing Sing Sing, Mission Impossible, Happy Together, Don’t Know Why, Stand By Me and Mercy Mercy Mercy.
It’s party time and ‘Sussudio Big Band’ are the hottest big band in town! With a huge selection of music ranging from Glenn Miller and Count Basie through to the energetic sounds of Buddy Rich and Gordon Goodwin, ‘Sussudio’ features two awesome vocalists whose renditions of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra songs will catapult you back in time. Or if it is a more modern feel you are wanting, the big band will get you strutting your stuff on the dance floor to contemporary greats including Ariana Grande, Earth Wind and Fire and Michael Jackson. Simply irresistible, ‘Sussudio’ big band is a polished and professional outfit dedicated to entertaining your guests with the best music and an unforgettable show.
West Pymble Public School Performance Band is the most senior of the three bands at the school. The 32 members from years 4 to 6 enter the band through an audition process. They practice twice a week and love to perform publicly. The children are conducted by Mr Matt Dalziel who inspires them with a range of music from the classics to the newest pop music. This is their first performance at the wahroonga Fair and will be thrilled to perform for you.
Sydney Youth Musical Theatre is now in its 39th year of staging productions in the Sydney region, and it remains the only exclusively youth musical society in Australia. Each year, we stage two productions: one in July for our 14-25 year-old members, and a November production for our 10-18 year-old members. At Wahroonga Food & Wine Festival there will be a short series of musical numbers performed by select members of the cast of the up and coming Beauty & the Beast musical at Hornsby RSL.
